The US Airways Lost Baggage Experience™
Category: US Airways: Buncha Pig-Fucking Commie Bastards
Tuesday, December 30, 2003
Hey kids -- would you like to be able to have all the fun of dealing with US Airways' lost-baggage claim service, without actually having to lose your bags?
Sure! Who wouldn't??? Well, now you bring the US Airways Lost Baggage Experience™ into your very own home just by following these simple steps.
- Get a blank audio tape, a tape recorder, and a cheesy "smooth jazz" CD. Kenny G will do nicely.
- Put the tape in the recorder and record yourself saying "Thank you for calling US Airways Baggage Claims Service. Your call is important to us. All our operators are currently assisting other customers. Please wait for one of our operators to assist you."
- Record 30 minutes of random tunes from the "smooth jazz" CD. Be sure to break in every ten minutes and record yourself saying "If you would prefer to file your claim by mail, please send it to US Airways, System Baggage Services, Pittsburgh International Airport, PO Box 12346, Pittsburgh, PA 15321." Because Lord knows that if you've lost your luggage you probably want to wait to get an answer by mail.
- After the 30 minutes, stop the music and record yourself saying "Thank you for calling US Airways Baggage Claim Services. Your reference number?"
- Leave enough "dead air" on the tape for you to read off six random letters. (Yes, the "reference number" is made up entirely of letters. Don't ask.)
- Record yourself saying "Thank you [sir | madam], please wait while I contact [insert name of random airport here] to check the status of your claim."
- Record thirty more minutes of "smooth jazz."
- Stop the music again. Record yourself saying "Thank you for your patience, [sir | madam]. I have checked with [insert name of random airport from previous step], and they have told me that they have just received 100 bags from Philadelphia, and they have not had time to begin going through them yet. They believe your bag is among these. Once they have time to go through the bags from Philadelphia and confirm this, they will call you."
- Leave enough "dead air" for you to say "That's the same thing you told me the last [insert number of times you've played the tape] times I've talked to you people! How long are those 100 bags going to sit there before someone gets around to going through them?"
- Record yourself saying "I'm sorry [sir | madam], I know it's frustrating but there's nothing we can do, it's all up to the staff on the ground at [insert name of random airport from previous steps]. Thank you for flying US Airways!"
Then, any time you want to live the true US Airways Lost Baggage Experience™, you can just play back the tape and let it wash over you. I've had this same conversation three times now over the last 24 hours, so I can only assume that the folks at US Airways are working off a tape themselves. So why shouldn't we cut out the middleman?

If you think anything I write here represents the opinions of anybody but myself, you need more help than I can give you. The opinions are all mine, folks. Nobody else's.
If that's too hard to understand... well, I'm sorry. There's only so much I can do. I'm not a therapist, and I'm not a miracle worker. I wish I could help you work through your delusional belief that I'm speaking for anyone else but myself. Honestly, I do. But in the end, that's a monkey you'll have to get off your back on your own. Sorry.
I know this post was made a year ago, but the same thing has just happened to me.
They delayed/lost my bags at philadelphia while i transferred to a connecting flight to newark.
What did you do? What can I do?
US Airways -- where some things never change™. Sigh... sorry to hear you went through this too.
The best thing I can tell you is to keep on them -- I eventually got my bags (a couple of days after I arrived in DC), but it required a lot of pushing on my part to get them to make it a priority. The old squeaky wheel, that's me. Their whole ground staff was so lackadaisical about it that I came away convinced that I might have not seen my bags for much longer had I not ridden them about it.
Hope this helps, good luck in getting back your luggage :-/
Seriously. Same thing is happening to me. I haven't seen my bags in three days, and I can't get ANYONE on the phone who has any information about them. I'm ready to go postal.
My bags never arrived in Cancun. I was told the
paperwork would be sent to me (I live in Canada)
Two weeks and still no luggage and the same recording. Any ideas what I can do?
Fuck US Airways and Fuck Philadelphia Airport!! Im freezing my ass off over here in Boston cuz no one in Philadelphia can seem to get off their lazy asses to answer the phone or check on that one green bag that's prolly sitting in the corner!!! And fuck AirTran and their baggage claim people with the incorrect grammar who told me when I asked about my bag, "It hasn't CAME in yet!" What is this, MTV's the Real World's Tammy? "It WASN'T NOT funny!!
I hate Hate HATE US Airways. I'm getting the runaround and they have me calling in circles due to their absolute incompetence. My phone will not rest until I get my bag though. I don't know if it should be comforting that other people are going through the same thing as I am, or be very worried about the state of our rapidly diminishing airline industry and the fools who run it.
The correct answer: be very worried :-(
I havn't seen my bag in almost month. So who the heck knows if I will see it again! I don't even now if I will be reimbursed. I lost my bag going through Phil. to Shannon Ireland from Seattle. I HATE US AIRWAYS! BTW I appreciate the humor...
too funny - I have had a similarly disasterous expereince with them and was surfing around trying to find an actual email to write to when I came across this blog.... it seemd to echo my thoughts exactly.
You do just have to keep onto them - and listening to those stupid recordings. we finally received both bags (they managed to go 2 for 2) but it took hours and days of persistence. Sadly it doesn't seem that the new management team has helped at all...
I am going through the same situation right now. I was going on a job interview on March 29 to Philadelphia. It was a direct flight out of Pittsburgh. I arrrived at the airport two hours early to check my bag in. Only to find out when I arrived in Philadephia that my bag did not arrive. I have been getting so many different stories about the whereabouts of my bag. I'm starting to believe that bag was not lost it was stolen.
I hate US Airways - they broke my luggage and refused to fix it. Why? Because I didn't take it to there luggage dept w/ in 4 HOURS! Did they realize that people have conections to make, and not everyone has the time or the capability to 1) find their website on the internet 2) navigate to lost luggage 3) have time to deal with the situation while traveling?!? -Once again this occured in Philly.
FIRST OFF: NEVER FLY THROUGH PHILLI.
MY BOYFRIEND HAS HIS WHOLE LIFE IN HIS BAG BECAUSE HES FROM ENGLAND. BOTH OF OURS ARE LOST. THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF DESIGNER CLOTHES AND ALL HIS BELONGINGS, HE HAS BEEN IN THE SAME CLOTHES FOR DAYS NOW.
MY ADVICE: CALL EVERY AIRPORT AND DESCRIBE THE BAG: THEN THEN CAN DO A CHECK. THIS ALWAYS HELPS.
#2: NEVER FLY THROUGH PHILLI.
#3 PUT MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF LUAGGE TAGS ALL OVER YOUR BAG
#4 SPRAY PAINT YOUR ADDY ON THE BAG
#5 F*** THAT, CARRY ON YOUR BAG ALL THE TIME. POINT BLANK.
I AM GREG FROM MEET THE PARENTS. THATS HOW I FEEL
Me too! only from Philly! Is that not the truth!
I hate US AIRWAYS. They have lost my luggage and can't find it which has my designer wedding gown, my fiance's tuxedo rental and alot of other stuff. The baggage is Anne Klein *expensive* and I intend on taking them to small claims court.
I don't curse, but I am close to do it. Usairways lost my luggage from Philadelphia to LA. My flight started in Spain. After dozens of calls and conversations with call centers in Guatemala, Phoenix and God knows where else, I was told my luggage was placed in a United Flight fr LA to Fresno, california on 08-19-06, and should be delivered to my house/city any time now. This was 5 days ago. I just found out after a 90 minutes conversation w/someone in Guatemala that my suitcase is not in Fresno, the truth is nobody knows where my luggage is. I called United, they have no record of my luggage being shipped from LA to Fresno. Is there anyone running this Airline?
Any suggestions? Thank you! Maria
I flew from Dallas to Las Vegas "only stopping" in Phoenix my carry on luggage which I had no choice either give it up as checked baggage or miss my flight. needless to say all my electronic equipment was in the one bag they "had" to have right at the gate along with other things no one in their right mind would have checked this bag in but at the gate I had no choice. and now the airline is saying they are not responsible and won't pay for the electronics. any advice???? they have offorded a free $200.00 voucher for another flight with them and a small monetary amount which doesn't even come close to the amount lost/STOLEN!!!
Oh boy. This blog entry came top of my google search for lost baggage us airways'. Can't say it has filled me with optimism with regards to finding my own baggage, which got lost at Philly on a transfer to St. Louis from Lisbon. Philly. Again. WTF? Have they got some kind of blackmarket in stolen luggage going on there, or do US Airways have some sort of hire-a-retard policy for their baggage handlers?
I flew Miami-Philly-Barcelona and my bag with EVERYTHING did not arrive. Had to replace everything because I was leaving on a cruise. Wasted 3 days in Barcelona trying to get my stuff only to be placed on hold for hours and then when I finally did speak to someone got misinformation. Was told classification changed from DELAYED to LOST. Then told it was found and to go to Barcelona airport - took a long cab there - they refused to look for it or give it to me and told me to forget about it and get on my cruise. Shopped for more necessities only to return to my cabin one night (4 days later) in Ibiza to find my bag (they had already told me it missed the flight to Ibiza). They are totally incompetent. They sent me 2 vouchers for $25 off flights of 150 - 249. Are they joking?? What an insult. I will pursue this. (BTW - connection was also Philly) Was also were told in Barcelona by "lost Luggage" that there were thousands of pieces of lost luggage there. Unbelievable!!
Fucking US Airways and thier Nazi Assed leader Doug Parker. Fuck you and your lousy assed airline. Never on time, people suck shit, customer service is a total joke and everybody is a union lazy assed motherfucker and wouldn't lift a finger to wipe their own ass. I hope your company goes down the tubes...
wish I read this before I packed for a Christmas vacation from ft. myers direct flight to philadelphia. plane delayed bag of presents and all my clothes lost. screw the baggage claim line same message over and over. can't find anyone who speaks english to get any info. Anyone know the usairways president's number. I would love to ruin a holiday for him.
i am in the midst of trying to locate my 2 bags. when i arrived at the connecting airport i was told that my connecting flight DID NOT EXIST! after having to prove my case, that i in fact had a US Airways printed itinerary showing my connecting flight, did the customer service agent say that they made a mistake and then attempted to reroute us and our luggage. we arrived but our luggage did not. what is the easiest way to find local numbers for US Airways baggage claim at each airport that i need to call?
All right, let's just say that... I was connecting in Philadelphia coming from Paris to DC. Arrived in DC, got one bag, not the other one, which was... in Pittsburgh, for some more vacation! Anyway, less than 24 hours to have it back, I assume by redaing you that I am lucky!
Thanks for this blog, it should be advertised!
I usually don't swear, but fuck US Airways! I was flying home after the holidays Chicago-Pittsburg-Newark. I checked in one of my bags at O'Hare and took the carry-on with me. Since there was no space in the overhead compartment the flight attendant took my carry-on to "store it". Without any authorization she checked in my carry-on (which had all my personal documents, money, laptop, SLR camera, and boarding pass for a connecting flight) and when the plane took off she gave me a baggage slip which with Pittsburg as my final destination. I had no choice but to run, get my carry-on and get on my connecting flight. I missed the flight due to a US Airways thoughtless and incompetent flight attendant. I was then rerouted to LaGuardia where I filed a claim to have my checked-in baggage delivered. I was told the bag would be delivered the next day. Four days later I still have NO bag (I can't even imagine the cost and time to replace my belongings, not to mention my thesis notes). I spent countless hours calling the airports. The bag was checked-in in Chicago and then absorbed into the US Airways black hole with no record. Why do they even bother putting the tags on? Does anyone run this airline? The liabilities limitations on the claim really do not give the employees the incentive to be accountable. Have the authorities investigated what’s happening to the baggage at US Airways?
Same thing happened to me yesterday. Caught a connecting US Airways flight from Philadelpha and when I arrived in my destination, I discovered the bags were lost. They have no freakin clue where they are. They don't scan luggage; what is up with that?
Not to mention, in the course of one day, I had a delayed flight that made me miss my connection, then they cancelled my replacement connecting flight and almost caused me to miss a job interview. And I encountered at least 4 rude or unhelpful employees, one of which almost caused me to miss ground transportation to my destination for the cancelled flight because she sent me to the wrong place.
Will never use that airline again and will avoid Philly airport at all costs.
16 days have passed and I still don't have my luggage. I have spent all my cell phone minutes contacting US Airways. I have mostly encountered apathy and rudeness among the employees. One at LaGuardia told me mine was the first case of the lost luggage she has heard of since she started working - I assume she either is severely under-informed about US Airways record breaking luggage loss rate or she was hired very briefly before my call. Another employee from the baggage claim call center told me "Forget about your bag!" - considering the situation the comment was not only inappropriate, but cruel. Most of the employees at the call center can't speak or understand English - their office is located in Guatemala! Finally the woman at the Charlotte baggage warehouse, which has been my last hope, told me to stop calling the office. She was not able to verify if my luggage was with them, and suggested I start contacting other airlines who might have picked up my luggage. I have filed a claim and a complaint with US Air, but received no response. I have also filed a police report, but been told nothing was going to be done about it. Is there any way US Air can be held accountable?
Came across this blog while trying to find my own bags. My husband and I flew US Air out of Philly direct to St. Thomas on 1/13. Checked 4 bags with the skycap but only 3 arrived in St. T. Airline rep in St. Thomas basically was NO help at all b/c I couldn't give them a claim #. Then I realized the skycap never actually tagged the bag!! Spent 2 weeks in St. John with NO extra contact lenses (in the bag), had to scrounge for and then buy all new toiletries b/c they lost my Aveda stuff. Returned to Philly to find out from US Air baggage claim that there WAS an electronic tag in the system for the bag and the rep in St Thomas "should have filed a tracking claim for you immediately". Naturally, b/c weeks have passed, it is unlikely I'll ever see the bag, which also contained my husbands new sonicare toothbrush and pocket knife he received as a 40th b-day present (very sentimental for him). These assholes are now calling us every couple of days from US Air asking if we got our bag! HELLO! Aren't THEY supposed to be finding it?? Won't they know if we get it back??? After 9/11 we can't take more than 3oz container of liquid on the plane but they can't even account for a goddamn bag FILLED with liquids/gels/etc....!! I agree with a previous blogger: I think my bag was not "misplaced" by the skycap. I think it was stolen.... I'll never fly that airline again.
I took a direct fight out of Phoenix to Columbus. US Air lost my bag! It turns out that they have absolutely no way of tracking a "lost" bag. Their system is horrible! I checked in over 1 hour before my flight and they could not get the bag on a non-stop flight.
Same story here. Bag lost with a connection through Philly (Seattle to DC) yesterday. I present at a conference tomorrow afternoon. You'd think with freaking bar codes that they could at least tell you where your bag is in the system. But no..
Our houseguest was booked from Manchester England, through Philadelphia, to Ft. Myers, FL
Takeoff was delayed 6 hours.
The bag was missing.
No blood pressure medicine, toothpaste, spare shoes, etc (She does not travel much and did not know)
The tracking service after 48 hours says that the bag is now at the airport.
The phone numbers given on the data sheet from the airport first gave a recording, next said the mailbox was full, and now don't ring. How are we supposed to get the delivery through the gate when we don't tell them the code??????? I have tried both numbers at least 10 times
How do we claim for underwear, shoes, and the US prices for her medicines? No claim form to be found on the internet.
Sigh. and they will blame the computer
The computer system has no way to claim for shoes
My fiance (from Hong Kong and here 3 weeks)attempted to fly from Philadelphia to Orlando when her flight got cancelled by snow. She decided to forgo the long wait and asked for her luggage back. They could not find it. She has been stranded with relatives for 3 days with no clothes, no toiletries, in a crowded house, and with no help whatsoever from USAir despite dozens of calls. And she never even got off the ground. Did her luggage fly without her (a huge security risk I would think) Where do we push to send USAir over the brink of bankruptcy? Are you listening USAir???
While on tour with my band Seven Nations this past weekend, I flew from Boston to Philly on US Airways and gues what? My instrument did not arrive. I had an entire weekend festival of shows with no instrument. It has been 5 days now and I am back home in Canada and cannot get any information on the whereabouts of my instrument. It is very valuable, much more valuable than the airlines legislated liability on lost bagage. The customer service is non-existing. I think the airline is run so poorly it will probably take a major accident that costs several lives before anything will ever be done about it. It is too bad we can't mobolize enough people and exercise some solidarity. Stop flying US Airways! Put them and their sorry, pathetic CEO and executives out of business. They and all their pathetic employees deserve it. The staff on the ground at Philly are absolutley terrible. I would never have any people like that work for me. What the US Airways needs is some consulting on brand management, internal and external brand communication standards, and a brand manager who can execute the tremendous task at hand. Your brand is everything in business today and your employees can be your best brand champion or your worst brand enemy. In the business case invloving US Airways and other major airlines it is the case of best brand enemy. Come on US Airways grow some balls and at least try to save your brand!
Oh yeah, and I don't usually use profanities on public forums either but what the heck... Doug Parker and all your staff around the world... Fuck You! Your brand sucks!
Well, hello fellow sufferers!
I just got back from the Carnevale in Venice, where I had no costume, due to flying US Airways through Philadelphia.
They lost my bag during a switch over to Air France. I had two bags, and only the one with my street clothes got through, two days late.
Friends of mine lost *their* costumes flying into Philadelphia on US Airways one week earlier than I did, during a switch to Lufthansa. In their case, the street clothes also turned up a few days late, but no costume.
I'm inclined to believe that there is a theft ring operating. What else makes sense?
Just thought, I'd add to the chorus. FUCK USAIR. I'm sitting on hold right now. 35 and counting. Been 3 days since I arrived home and haven't been able to get through to one human being. Left multiple messages at Airport baggage office(The number where they tell you to call for updates) Even wrote a couple of emails. Still nothing. I was away on business and had about a thousand dollars worth of equipment in one of my bags. And what's it with them saying they accept no liability. That's unbelievable. I guess it's my fault for flying thier shitty airline.
Two bags lost since Sunday arrival at BOS Logan airport.

I'm the friend of robespierrette who also lost hand-made costumes thanks to the incompetence and/or criminality of US Airways staff in Philly.
I've put up a website with a description of our experience and photos of the costumes (in case they ever turn up on ebay):
http://www.usairwayslostmycostume.com/main.html
My husband and i just got of us air this morning and out of a full plane we were the only ones that they miss placed our 3 bags bou what can i say i must have been the lucky one. We flew from Hawaii to Pittsburgh connecting flight from las on Ata onto Us air no one will tack the blame if it made it to one air line from the other nice guys. I have been up for 38 hrs very tired so tired not know how to react to this bull I have lost 3 camras all my things i bought and to boot most of my receipts are in my bags. I will never fly Us air or Ata ever again!
URL update...
It should be:

Sorry to hear about the rampant disappearances.
Does anyone know if this blight has been covered by any news/media outlets? I'm not discounting the possibility of systematic thefts (or the ensuing need to involve the police), but the fear of bad publicity might motivate the city to pay more attention to what's happening to visitors and travellers. (I used to live near Philly but not now.)
Well, this is getting pretty comical. Yes, I found this site via a Google search. Yes, I had a stopover in Philly (is this the new Bermuda Triangle? Hell, I flew to Bermuda last year and had no problems: none, niente, nada. Left & arrived on time, with all appendages & accoutrements intact.) I flew San Juan - Philly - Boston. Yes, both legs of my flight were delayed (for bullshit reasons). Yes, they lost (oh, 'scuse me: *delayed*) both pieces of my luggage.
But... "always look on the briiiight side of life: do doo, da doo da doo da doo da doo!" After two days, they FOUND and DELIVERED one piece of luggage! Hip hip hooray! Callooh! Callay!
Of course, the more important piece, the one containing my musical instrument and some personal items (which I won't describe here, but suffice it to say that one has to be custom-made, can be used only by me, and cost $600) is still lost in space.
More things that'll sound all-too-familiar: no one EVER answers the local baggage claim # (617-634-0527). (If you go there in person, however, one lady behind the counter is selling Girl Scout cookies. Isn't THAT nice. I bought a box, hoping it would earn me brownie points [OK, that was bad] in the quest to find my luggage. Well, OK; they found ONE bag. Maybe I should have bought TWO boxes.)
I was kept on hold (on 800-371-4771) for a MERE 25 minutes, and, having read this blog, couldn't resist asking the (very nice, I must admit, and quite-well-versed-in-English) gentleman on the other end of the line whether he was, in fact, speaking to me from Guatemala. "Y-e-e-s-s...?" he said--slowly, warily, clearly caught off guard. And here the conversation took a slightly salacious turn...
I kid. Anyway, what to do? As others have suggested, be a squeaky wheel. Don't lose hope. And write an actual letter of complaint rather than an email. And boycott the airline. These folks are clearly struggling already. BTW, did I mention that when I (finally) arrived in Boston, there were already about 200 pieces of luggage from various flights neatly packed into a cordoned-off part of Baggage Claim? Very reassuring.
Plus: no one checks the claim tags, no one cares. I second Robespierrette's suspicion that there might be some sort of theft ring thing going on.
Thank you, Jason Lefkowitz. Keep on keepin' on.
Am happy to report that the cello finally arrived today, albeit in a few pieces. Maybe it had something to do w/ the fact that I personally went all the way back to the airport, sweet-talked the guys there at the lost baggage counter, and gave them a photograph of the bag.
Good luck to all. I'm sticking to trains from now on.
Anyone know the number to the LGA or Philly US Airways baggage claim areas?? so that I can start harrassing them some more...
My luggage got lost last night when traveling from Philly to La Guardia to Boston. When I arrived in Boston, there were stacks of luggage between the baggage claim belts due to rerouting and delays. Mine wasn't one of them, and when I asked whether or not they tracked which pieces have arrived, they said they did not scan.
I've been calling the numbers they gave me (617-634-4233 and 617-634-4234) repeatedly, only to get indefinite ringing or the busy tone. The 1-800 number isn't effective, either. If anyone can give me more contact numbers, I'd greatly appreciate it!!
My brother took a flight from Orlando connecting in Charlotte an a final destination into Newark. He has traveled about 36 weeks out the year for 10 yrs and has never lost a piece of luggage yet...until yesteray on a US AIR flight.
He arrived in Newark after rushing to the connecting flight in Charlotte (due to a mechanical problem with the plane in Orlando) and no luggage accompanied him. He talked to an filled out paper forms at the LOST LUGGAGE area an they told him it should arrive on the next flight.
They (the US AIR luggage folks) said it should be on the next flight following his arrival,an so he called at 630pm only to find that they did not have any information to give him an they had no idea when it would arrive.
He called the 800 number repeatedly only to have the number ring and ring an ring...he finally decided to get some sleep around 11pm. Six hours of phone calls an no information an NO LUGGAGE!
The next morning at 7am I began my quest to located the whereabouts of the missing bag. I spent the next 6 hours on the internet and made over 75 phone calls to ORlando, Charlotte and Newark Airports....I manage to obtain direct phone numbers to the LOST LUGGAGE area and at Charlotte got the name of a "REAL" person who is a STATION SUPERVISOR...her name is Terry POpe.
I was told that Newark (final destination)was responsible for the lost lugggage an to keep calling the direct line...and that is what I did I let it ring an ring ring and then I'd hang up and call the other number...7 hours later a woman named Rose said "hello"...I gave her my information and she located my brother's bag.
Tenacity and persistance DOES pay....
Some numbers in case y'all nee them....
Newark Lost Luggage - 973-642-5507 or 973-642-5506 or 973-642-5504 the DIRECT line to the ticket counter is: 973-642-5665 or 973-623-9057 an the direct line to the airport is: 973-961-6000

the Lost Luggage number is: 704-359-3070
if that goes to voicemail an the box is full call 704-359-3492 and the person to speak to is Terry Pope - Station Supervisor
That is all I hope these numbers help those need help either at Charlotte or Newark!
Kim & Jason
I posted earlier today about losing luggage yesterday when traveling from Philly to LGA to Boston. I managed to get my luggage back, but no thanks to US Airways. I drove to Logan airport tonight and found it among the many suitcases sitting between the baggage claim belts (which anyone can take, it seems).
Before going to Logan, I talked to someone at the 1-800 number who sent a fax to the Boston people (since they don't pick up the phone), and who basically told me to wait until I get a call about my luggage. I didn't want to sit and do nothing, so I drove to the airport myself. I didn't tell them that I found my luggage - and I still have not gotten a call saying it arrived at Logan. Ridiculous.
So, anyone who has the same problem - if you're told to just sit around and wait, I'd recommend going to the airport if that's an option.
ok. this is absurd. is there anything we can do?? i want the company to go broke. i hate them!!! cant we contact newspapers or something. they really shouldn't get away with this!!
I lost my baggage going from Pittsburgh to New York Laguardia on March 11. I agree with everyone here that their lost baggage customer service is horrible. The ladies at the LaGuardia counter looked like they could care less and I stood there for 5 minutes before one of them looked up from what she was doing to file a claim. Their 1-800 number to call center in Guatemala is just a place to dump customer calls so they don't have to deal with them, apparantly. The individuals on the other side of the line told me they didn't have any phone numbers that I could use, and all they could do was leave messages for the airports to call back! I do have a number to their voicemail system - 718-533-2400. Does anybody know how to use it? Nine days and still no response. I'm filing a lawsuit more because of their crappy communication and service than their losing my bag.
US Airways lost 2 bags of ours going from Raleigh-Durham last Wed (14-Mar) to Las Vegas (with a connection in Charlotte). We are back home (day # 9) and no luggage. It has been a tiresome and disastrous experience with waiting on hold every day for atleast 1.5 hrs before we speak to someone, let alone all the inconveniences this has caused us. We've checked all airports to/from our destination (physically checked the airports)and our bags are no where to be found. I have been victomized and robbed by a horrifically managed organization. I've traveled for business for 6 consecutive years and 7 times my luggage has been delayed by US Airways. This time it is gone. 9 days and counting - and no sign. You think I would have learned my lesson never to fly their airlines. I have learned. Bad service eventually equates to bad stock. Maybe the stockholders will read this forum and then US Airways will really go down.
I really think that is the only way to stop the theft and poor customer service.
I've contacted my local news and they are interested in troubleshooting this investigation. Maybe we will get somewhere with this.
I am so frustrated with the travel industry that i created www.frustratedtraveler.com. My idea was to create a place where frustrated travelers could come together and tell their stories in one place and maybe even find some resolution. I find that after talking about my frustrating experience or writing it down, doesn't solve the problem, but gives me some relief.
Please take a moment to come over to www.frustratedtraveler.com and tell your story again. You can post it to the forums or the front page by clicking on "tell Your Story" link on the left.
Take care and best of luck on your next travel experience.

After my experience with US Airways I could care less about cheap prices; I'll spend more money on another carrier just to avoid the headache of lost bags and rude staff. I truly hope they go out of business. Truly. We should all have that satisfaction.
(I believe you posted my link but I included it again :)
I. HATE. US. AIRWAYS!!!! On hold 20 minutes and couting, no end in sight. They lost my luggage on a business trip. Told me they would get it to my hotel room. 8 pm rolls around and I call back and ask them where it is, and they say they have NO IDEA!!!! So I go to the mall and buy everything, I mean EVERYTHING because I have mtgs the next day that I cannot show up to in sweatpants!!! Now I need the reimbursement forms and these assholes will not pick up the phone.
Does anyone know how to get your hands on the reimbursement forms? Are they posted online anywhere??
SOS! PLEASE HELP!
I have completely lost hope that our two bags will ever show up. It has now been 33 days and we filed all our reimbursement and claim forms 3 weeks ago. I called the other day to check the status and I was told that this reimbursement process is a 12-16 week process. So I must wait 4 more months to see some sort of reimbursement check. I'm sad we lost so much on our vacation - and let us not forget - we lost our whole vacation as well. Who could even enjoy a vacation with no luggage?
Cheryl
Second time these morons lost my bag with the same automaton responses. They completely suck. Isn't there an aggressive litigator out there that will go after these assholes in a class action suit. They need to feel some pain.
Okay, i fly every week for work. I had to take US Air this time. I noticed my luggage wasn't on the flight and I told them. I tried to find it but couldn't or else I'd miss the flight and my boss would be mad. My luggage has a huge winter striped scarf attached and spray painted my name on it. Every time I call " We have hundreds onf bag and we are looking for your bag"!!! WTF it's spray painted with a big azz scarf tied to it...This was Philly..Are they serious? It had a DVD player in it, they probably stole it.
I flirted with this guy and he gave me the number to Philly's baggage claim, I got an answer on the first ring...go figure..they put me on hold though..I hope something good happens....I really need my luggage...here is the number

I am sitting in our Belgium office in clothes that I bought at a cheap market. Why? Because US Airways lost my luggage on a direct flight from Philadelphia. I am fortunate enough to have an Admin. and a hotel clerk do all the calling for me. If I had to do it myself I would have had a major league meltdown. What was even more shocking was that everyone had a lost luggage experience with USAirways. I am on day 5 with no suitcase - no glasses, no make up, everything new. My contact solution cost 16 euro. I handed my luggage to a skycap. I watched him put the tag on it and put it on the conveyer belt. I lost thousands - suits, new running sneakers, gifts for my co-workers. I will do anything not to fly with US Airways!
US Air has nothing but a bunch of fucking idiots working for them. I was flying from Buffalo to Dallas but lo and behold, my bags went to Philadelphia! Great, just great. Seems the majority of baggage issues stem from Philadelphia. And of course you call their customer service and you get a fucking non-english speaking taiwanese retarded mufflehead trying to talk to you. Totally rude to boot.
The topper is the lady at the airport claims desk said I didn't need any baggage claim tickets, only the claim number so she tossed them. Now US Air says I must have them. Fuck me for listening to the idiot. Now I am out about 2000k in clothes. Fuckers. Never again!
Well, here's my sob story. My daughter on her first trip overseas for a University Work Exchange flew from Seattle to London via Philly. She packed a carry-on with the essentials in the event her checked bag was lost. The gate attendant said the carry-on would not fit and checked it at the gate. Sure enough, the flight was delayed, she missed her connection and the bags never materialized. I've spent hours on the phone with Baggage Claims and stupid reservation people that won't give me any info. Talk about a great way to make sure the next generation never flies US Airways. They are doing a good job of shooting themselved in the foot.

This scares the hell out of me reading what everyone has posted. It has been 8 days since i have seen my Suitcase. I was flying from CDG to PHL to ROC and i knew when i arrived in Philly i would lose my bag because it was the most unorganized airport i have ever seen. I had to re-check my own bags.
Every time i try to call us airways i get the same response, " we have no information at this time". I am thinking about going to the press? How can they find my husband bags that were on the same flight but not mine??? I will never be able to replace the stuff in my bag. I was in Europe for 6 weeks, so you can only imagine the contents in my suitcase. I didn't even have a pair of socks to come home to.
USAIR just delivered a suitcase to my house last night while I was sleeping - I found it on my front door steps this morning. IT'S NOT MINE!!!!
It was brought up from Logan. I haven't lost any luggage, and haven't been on a plane since February... ding bats...
I opened it up & searched it, hoping I'd find contact info so I could contact the passenger directly with the news, but there is nothing... no clue... people, put your name, address, and phone number inside your suitcase! Anyway, I sent USAir an email this morning to come take the bag back, and deliver it to the correct person. The routing tag says PHILLY of course.
I didn't really pay attention to anything, but, it's black, a brand I've never heard of, and I noticed boring things like a towel, flip flops, an orange top, toothbrushes....
That was the delivery service company - not the airline. The task is outsourced.
Same story here. Bag lost with a connection through Philly to Miami back in Jan 2007. They must be hiring retard bag handlers there! I'm still fighting with visa travel insurance and u.s. airways to resolve this claim. What a joke!
check out that website.
yes, i must agree, i went through all the same stuff
lost bags
flight delays
flight cancelation
random layovers in texas AND phoenix
crappy customer service
ALL on the same vacation!
My husband and myself returned from our honeymoon in Antigua July 21st. Our bags were in our possession after making it through customs and then we rechecked them for our final lap from Charlotte to Detroit. Lo and behold 3 bags were missing, which was understandable as the connection was really tight. The following day we got 2 out of 3 bags. I have lost my entire suitcase with a months-worth of clothes as we were married overseas, all mostly new. Till today US airways has not even located my bag. How can you lose a huge bag with 3 tags on it.All our other bags made it through fine. I am so frustrated calling and speaking to bloody machines, and hearing that they are very sorry. Stop being sorry and find the damn bag. Do not ever call the 1-800 number they give, as the people in Guatemala have no freaking clue where your bag is obviously. To every questioned we asked them their reply is "I don't know".....they have a very nice/easy job I must say...wish my job involved the same. Last time I will ever fly with US airways.... never again. Does anyone have any idea what else I can try to do??
I just completed a round trip thru Philadelphia to Aruba - just us two girls - lost of luggage of course! Last minute flight so we took US air. Our baggage was lost once we flew into Aruba along with numerous other passengers. Immediately we remember watching these two young girls who were pointing to their luggage outside the window 'as we were boarding'. Didn't mean much at the time, then we also remembered we had a gate change at the last minute and assumed our bags never got on our plane. In Aruba, we were all standing in this long line with ONE representative from US Air attempting to 'hand write' each of our claim papers. Finally we asked for a supervisor - she said there was no other supervisor. Then we ask if they could make additional copies of the forms we needed to fill out in order for us to be pro active and get them completed much sooner than she was, couldn't do that either. We ask if we should buy toiletries and keep receipts, how much would US Air reimburse us, she said $50 per day - that was at the very least a little comforting. However, once I got thru on the phone to check on status of our baggage - the rep on the other end said she had no idea US Air would reimburse us and didn't know anything about purchasing toiletries. UUUGH!!! We proceeded on our vacation not knowing when our bags were expected, called each day to get info and they had no info, then I ran into another passenger from out flight and she had info that our bags were to arrive at our resort later that day. How incredibly unorganized was this?? We got ours after two days, but other passengers didn't receive theirs until four days later. ???
The real clincher came when I phoned US Air to change our return flight and mentioned something about lost luggage in Philly and asked if I could schedule another route - the US Airline rep said, 90 % of all luggage is lost in Philly due to an ongoing feud between the airports baggage handlers and US Airways. She went on to say that we would go thru customs in Philly, therefore, we would be hand carrying our luggage to our aircraft - which was not true since we cleared customs on Philly. And yes, we too had a weather delay, however that was ON TOP OF AN ALREADY HOUR DELAY DUE TO A REP NOT CHANGING OUR GATE AND ALLOWING AN INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT TO COME INTO OUR GATE INSTEAD OF ALLOWING US TO BOARD. The we sat on the tarmac for over two hours waiting to depart due to weather. Everyone on the plane missed any connection as we arrived in Vegas approx 1am. We found out later they had given out vouchers or sorts that included free shuttles to our hotels in Vegas, however they were not very clear on this and we did not receive them. So, did we receive our luggage in Vegas? Oh, yeah but what a condition it was in ! I have never in 30 years of traveling, EVER had such damage to my items. Broken, smashed, torn luggage. Lotions, contact solution, shampoo, everything all inside a travel case - inside my luggage - completely smashed. Incredible. At least we eventually got ours. I'm going to apply for the small reimbursement now.

I also had a fucking problem with US Airway.
Due to the fact that flight US 2641 from August 22, 2007 was cancelled, I had to spend the night at the International Airport of Charlotte NC. When I claimed my luggage, which I checked-in at Zurich International Airport, I noticed that my suit case-zipper have been broken up. When I finally checked the contain, I noticed that my Notebook (Fujitsu-Siemens) was missing including the correspondening suit case. I then suddenly got really shocked because I knew that I had to start my studies at the University of West Florida the 08/27/2007. I eventually went to the US Airways Central Resolution Office at Charlotte Airport (File reference CLTUS10407) and to the Airport Police and announced my loss.
Since I have not touched my luggage after the check-in at Zurich International Airport, I assume, that my notebook got stolen by opening my suit case when handling the luggage. It is an assumption only, nevertheless, it seems to be obvious that a luggage handler (maybe in Philadelphia) has stolen my notebook.
I'm not sure whether I will ever get a response from US Airways...
Hello folks....

Me too. Lost Dec 25, 2007. Still no bag as of Jan 1, 2008. The flight went through Philadelphia, of course.
What I would like to see here is any insider info anyone can get: addresses and phone numbers of central baggage centers (is it in Charlotte? Phoenix?), other places to talk to people who are actually in the warehouse where the lost stuff goes.
I will be writing a letter (that's on paper, sent in the US Mail) to Doug Parker too.
I should mention that I hardly even care about the bag or its contents. I just want to BEAT THEM and WIN THIS GAME. I AM GOING TO WIN!!! ROAAARRR!!!
I am pleased as punch to join the elite club of lost baggage flyers. Philly sucks blah, blah..but just a helpful hint..I found the number to us airways club and they connected me to baggage claim at Logan. 617-634-4180
They are "looking into" what the F happened in Philly to everyones luggage. And said they will call me back...crossing my fingers!
"Don't take any guff from these swine!" HST
US AIRWAYS is no bueno. Good luck getting a hold of anyone at their
“customer relations” number 1-866-523-5333. I called for 3 hours
and kept getting disconnected as they are personally unavailable to
answer your call and suggest you try your call again later. After
googling for a while I found a number ( on someones blog) where a
live person should be able to help you. I believe it is US Airways
corporate number- ( not toll free) 1-480-693-2341 they were able to
assist me there although I did not get the desired voucher amount
that we deserved for our troubles. I will not ever fly with US
Airways again. I value companies that value their customers- this
company could care less about helping people with the problems they
encountered while flying with them.
you can check the status of your bag ONLINE if you filed a lost baggage claim. use the reference number us airways gave you and your last name.

I left SanFran on Fri, Jan 4, the day the big storms hit. I escaped in a window of time to Charlotte. That was the 4th, today is the 8th, still no bag. This is more than just some bag to me. I came from Alaska with all Alaksan made goods as Christmas presents (this is 5000 miles across the states) and it is nowhere to be found.
If you want to know the trick to getting REAL people to help you AT ALL, first, set aside your frustration (it is not the person on the phone WHO lost your bag) be KIND to that person, be CALM, and YES I KNOW THAT IS REALLLLLY hard to do, but I have set aside my burning desire to punish the person on the other end and ask them questions--tell them my situation---relate to theirs: they get YELLED at all day long for something they didn't do but are expected to help fix. Find your PATIENCE. I have phone numbers to CLT, SFO, ATL, LasVegas, & Phoenix because I used my manners and remained as calm as I could and asked them to relate to MY story---I start with,"Are you SUPER-SuPER busy? Or do you have a few minutes to help me?" because when you finally get a real voice on the phone, at times they have a line of PISSED OFF individuals in front of them, so ask if they would take your number and call back, or just call them back in 30 mins. Filing claims only take a few minutes. I've also said/asked:"-- Please Help me, I'm not sure how this process really works, could you help me understand. --If this was your bag, what do you imagine would keep it from being put in the computer system? What would YOU do next?"
No, I still do not have my bag, I have cried about it several times-- I felt like my Christmas was spoiled because of the DISORGANIZATION of USAIR, not the people who will try to help me as best as they can. I have spoken with ppl who have woked for the Company 22yrs to 3 weeks. I have only encountered ONE NASTY MAN in ATL (he works the morning shift, so don't call early).
Forget the 1800baggage number. Its worthless. And if you can reach them, the people in CLT are wonderful to talk with-- nothing like true southern hospitality!! I take comfort in knowing that this company will be paying me back for all of the things that were lost, and I will never step on another USAIR flight again, nor will any of my family memebers, nor my close friends. Word of mouth is a powerful thing.
Here's a place to start:
On the SanFran airport phone numbers page, there is a number for a Volunteer Travelers Aid, the man's name is Aaron-- he is a volunteer NOT connected with any airline, so be nice to him-- he got me connected to one of the airline baggage counters.
Also, when calling around for your bag, ask if they wouldn't mind looking for your bag, tell them you have tried everything, WIN THEM OVER, and ask specifically for them to look at their ON HAND BAGS, these are the bags you see sitting out in front of the baggage claim areas in big piles. Once they sit there for ?hours, they move them to the back somewhere.
Another thing, after 72 hrs of sitting in an airport (at US) they are supposed to send them to the warehouse, after 90-120 days, if your bag does not match an ITEMIZED description in the computer system, they will have a salvaging company come get your stuff. Its all over, then...
What i want to find is the WAREHOUSE phone number. That would be GOLDEN!
Make sure you get someone to put a detailed description of your things in a NOTE on the file...in face, every time you call, make sure you ask them to note it in YOUR FILE. That is something i have forgotten to do, but later, when they see how many hours of phone calls i made, i hope they will see how impt that bag was to me.
The Joy of Giving was lost for me this holiday. Thanks so much USAIR! I imagine it's something that the owner/CEO of the company will never experience. Too bad. Maybe then he/she would fix these problems. I bet they fly with Delta! I will from now on too.
I wish I have seen this site before I decided to fly with US Air for the first time. I just completed a trip from San Jose to Phoenix and back. I came back to San Jose on a direct flight from Phoenix on US Air on 01/08/08. I would not expect my luggage to be lost in a million years. But, when I got to the San Jose airport my luggage was not on the carousel. I went to ask the lady working at the US Air baggage claim and she said: "Go to that claim office and file a claim. I was not in Phoenix so I can't tell you why your bag didn't make it." So, I filed the claim and got the slip with that 800-371-4771 number to call and the promise that usually the bag will show up on the next flight in and so would probably be at my doorstep by tomorrow morning. I started my adventure with tracking down my baggage yesterday at 11:00AM. The first guy said: "Oh, look like they have a match for your luggage tag ID for an unclaimed bag in the Edmonton airport." I asked him where is Edmonton. He said in Canada. So, he said he will send them a note asking them to send the bag on the first flight out of Edmonton to SFO. And, I should hear from the folks from Edmonton in a couple hours. If not just call back around 5PM. So, since then I have been getting the run around of "we are sorry but we don't know anything further", "maybe the bag is not yours", "we can't get anyone in Edmonton to answer the phone", etc... Then today, the latest is "we still don't know where your bag is and I am sorry my colleagues gave you the wrong information, you just have to keep calling every 2-3 hours to check". I have textbooks and souvenirs I got for my family in my bag. I put one of those tag from the airline on the outside of the bag but I didn't put a sheet w/ my name and contact information inside. However, I have a manilla folder in there with my e-ticket information in it. I am upset about the textbooks and the souvenir I got for my family, and the rude way the airline is handling this. If anyone has any suggestion as to any other numbers I can call to possibly get any closer to finding my bag please let me know. I guess baggage lost doesn't only happen in Philly; it happens in Phoenix too. I never flew on US Air before and never will after this experience.
I got a stand by ticket, but i didnt fly so they suppose to not load my baggage to the aircraft, but when I claimed my baggage, they told me that they did it. So I wait until I came to my destination to claim my baggage. But what a surprise! my baggage was lost, and i havent seen it since 1 week ago. The flight was Phoenix-Mexico City in february 6.
Hey everyone, US airways also lost my luggage and it's been a week and there's no sign of it. These posts were really helpful, especially the ones with phone numbers as I called some of them to get assistance from a couple of the airports that US airways told us they might be at. One other place it might be is Montego Bay, Jamaica, however I cannot find the phone number for their baggage center. Does anyone have it or know where I could find it? That would be very helpful. Thanks a lot.
Hi there. Found this when googling my stolen luggage.
First they forgot the bag in philadelphia, so i had to wait a few days before I got it. Now that I got it, they have taken out my laptop and my digital camera, and politely leaving a note saying that my bag was searched through by a security officer and that everything was returned to the bag after inspection.
I am now in a very difficoult situation where I dont have my laptop wich is essential to my work as an artist, and I am courently touring and with no possibility of buying a new one. And judging by this thread, it dont seem like the airliner can help me much either...
:S
Is there any way we can all get together and file a suit? I realize that even if we win the lawyers will get most or all of it. My luggage has been lost for three days. From this thread it looks like I'll never see it. I had a laptop, a very expensive Bible, etc. in it. Guess what? They give you this piece of paper with a list of things they WON"T replace. It includes, computers, electronics, jewlery, books, and a really long list of other things.
My suitcase has been M.I.A. for 7 days now. I was on a non-stop flight 4/30/08 on "Useless Air" from Nassau to Philly. There were only 2 flights leaving around the same time mine was leaving. I told the baggage rep that I was 99% sure the ticket counter woman (who was very "bitchy") didn't put a luggage tag on it.
So why don't they call down to Nassau and check to see who the baggage handlers were and where they put luggage that has no tags on it? No, instead they hand me this form/envelope to fill out! So very un-helpful it's disgusting. I've made several calls to their baggage resolution center (which is in Guatemala!) and get the same response. "Sorry for your loss, we're doing everything we can to find it" -- Yeah, RIGHT!!
I will never fly US AIR again, but I will not stop hounding them, until they find my luggage! I have things in there that could never be replaced!!! Those morons!!!!
******It's amazing - but I received my luggage last night at 10:15pm. I don't know where it was...but am so very glad I got it back. Had to post this in all fairness. (It was missing since 4/40/08 when I took a non-stop flight from Nassau to Philly). I felt it only fair that I post this.*******

Fuck fuck fuck fuck Air Tran!
They just kicked my sister and I from the plane. You know why? because I told the fucking stewardess that my sister might need oxygen if the altitude is too much. In Ecuador where I'm from, the local airlines do not have a problem with this, they have been nice and helpful and great. Here in America, since everybody is so fucking afraid to get sued, they just told us to get out of the plane. Thankfully they refunded only one ticket and now I have to deal with a really angered father. Fuck Airlines, and their stupid policies.
Well hello folks and let jump on the band wagon. Mine is slightly different. My baggage wasn't lost but damaged. May 29th I flew Charlotte to San Francisco. I've had my bowling bag ripped with holes in the bottom and to bowling balls cracked and no longer useable. US Air is trying to give me the run around for damaging over $500 in bowling equipment.
We went on a cruise May 3rd & never received our luggage the whole cruise. Got back on May 11th. Filed lost baggage claim with airport & all the other stuff they want you to fill out. Person at cruise line called airline & was told that our luggage was in Arizona (our trip left from Miami) how the hell it went to Arizona I don't know. Was told that the luggage was being sent to us. Contacted airline to see how they were going to ship our luggage back to us & was now informed that it was not in Arizonia. Asked person at lost baggage claim way they can't find my luggage by the baggage claim number(isn't that the reason they put those things on your luggage) Well here it is now June 13 & I'm still trying to get someone at the airport to give me an honest answer. I am not giving up until they find my luggage. The need a better system of tracking lost luggage.
I think the airline better check their employess they might be stealing our luggage
I will never travel on US Airways ever again
In early June of this year, I traveled home (from the UK) to attend my grandmother's funeral. It was a last minute flight and the cheapest fair being offered at the time was through U.S. Airways. At one time I had made a very light commitment to myself to try and never fly US Air. I had always had bad luck with them and luggage. In fact, the first time I flew to the UK to check out a job, my luggage was lost on the way here, and on the way back. Then, when I actually took the job and moved here, my luggage (and my wife's) was lost on the way. I showed up for my first day of work in jeans and a t-shirt (the same jeans and t-shirt I had worn on the flight the day before). So with that in mind, I wasn't thrilled about flying US Air, but financially it seemed like the smart choice.
It needs to be said that, during my entire trip, the staff of US Air were very rude. Mind you, I'm not a "speak to the manager" type of person myself. Nor am I a very confrontational person. I rarely register complaints but almost always speak to managers about employees who are doing an exceptional job. So this isn't coming from one of those people who think that staff should wait on them hand and foot. But, just as I treat others with a certain level of respect, I do expect that same level of respect to be given back, especially when I'm paying for it. Among the many rude experiences I had on my first flight was when I was approached about the meal. I had had my ($5) headphones on listening to the movie and had not heard any announcements concerning the meal so, when approached, I simply asked what they were serving. Instead of answering me, the lady sighed, walked to the back of the plane, and announced over the intercom, "Again, the choice of meal is....". Upon her return, I almost asked her if she was having a bad day, but refrained and simply ordered the chicken. During this same flight an announcement went out over the intercom that those who had checked their baggage at the gate would need to pick it up in the baggage claim as Philly staff would not deliver luggage at the gate. I remember wondering what gave Philly staff the right to determine company policy on baggage, but whatever, I had checked my baggage at the desk.
Upon arriving in Philly, I picked up my bags, went through customs, and handed them to the personal in charge of getting my bags on the flight to Pittsburgh. At the time I made a mental note that my bags had, in fact, at least made it to Philly and now only had a little ways to go to get to Pittsburgh. What could possibly go wrong?
Sure enough, when I arrived in Pittsburgh, they were nowhere to be found. They would not be found for another two days. Ask me how awkward it is to attend your grandmother's funeral in jeans.
On the day I was to travel back, I checked in three hours early, grabbed some dinner at the Pittsburgh airport, and then made my way down to the gate, only to find out that my flight had been canceled and that there would not be another one until the evening of the next day. Sigh. I went to the desk, looked the attendant straight in the eye, and asked her whether leaving my baggage with her (already checked in) or rechecking them the next day would give me the better chance of them actually arriving with me in London. She gave me a lovely glare and suggested that I take them with me that night. Luckily I had family in the area because US Air refused to put me up in a hotel.
The next day I arrived at the airport again, checked my bags, and hoped for the best. The best would never come. On the flight from Pittsburgh to Philly, along with the "make sure your seats are in an upright position" announcement, came the news that "Oh by the way, the bathroom on the plane does not work". No apologies for this, incidentally. It was announced the way you would mention, in passing, that the candy machine in the snack room was out of Snickers bars. Then, on the flight from Philly to London, my television monitor did not work (glad I bought those crappy $5 headphones). I mentioned it to several flight members, but was I was easily brushed aside. My neighbor's monitor also did not work.
Finally, once arriving in London, sure enough, my bags were missing. Again! At this point I had made five trips across the ocean with US Air and had lost my bag every single time!!! I finally decided that I had had enough. I went up to the check in desk and asked to speak with a manager. I told him my story and was assured that he would personally track down my luggage. Three days later he had.
I've sent several letters and made several phone calls to US Air. In my opinion, my experience was so bad that I deserve a refund or, at the very least, a travel voucher. Nothing doing. And, after seeing this website and several others, I can see why. If they decided to do the right thing, they'd be handing out thousands of free flights every day!
The last thing I heard from US Air was that they hoped to be able to do better if they ever "had the privileged of serving me again". Burn me once...
I always roll my eyes a little when I hear people make statements like, "I'll never fly with that air carrier again!" But seriously, I'd be a fool to fly with US Air again!
I can't help but think back on that announcement they made concerning the Philly staff's unwillingness to return bags checked at the gate. I found myself thinking that if US Air would do a better job of getting people's bags to them, people wouldn't be so paranoid about checking them!
US Air, in my opinion, is not a reputable company. Their employees seem to be disgruntled and the customer is NEVER right. I can honestly say that I am truly done with US Air.
Flew from Fort Myers to Pittsburgh w/ a layover on good ol philly... only one of the two checked bags made it. As we all now know - the barcodes are just for looks and nobody knows anything. Seriously considering driving to Philly this weekend to bug the people at the lost baggage area. ARGH.
I wish I had not been so naive when making travel arrangements to Italy. My family and I just got back on July 14. When we hit the airport in Catania, Italy, my aunt's luggage was lost. Luckily it was found within 2 days and delivered to where we were staying. That was the Alitalia airline. Now on to USAirways, we got to Philadelphia, picked up our luggage to go through Customs. My mother's bag was searched, we were asked if she had sausage in her suitcase! She had a curling iron in there. We checked our bags for the flight home to Rochester, New York and lo and behold my mother's luggage is missing! After 4 days of checking we got a call from US Airways center in Phoenix because they think that her luggage may have wound up there. We were told that sometimes it takes up to 6 weeks to find luggage!
The sad part of this whole tale is that my elderly aunt gave me her vintage bed linens to take home not to mention the souvenirs that we had. Luckily other than the linens, we did not put anything of value in the suitcase. It is just upsetting because we cannot replace the linens or the souvenirs.
Next time I travel I will not be so naive. I will take the time to research stats on lost luggage, etc.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will find it but........
I had a flight from Raleigh Durham to NY, LGA. I was redirected to Philly because of weather so we could "re-fuel" as soon as we stepped off the plane they cancelled our flight. Of couse no flights to LGA until the next day and of course i had to be in NY before then. I got a flight to White Plains, cancelled! So i had to take a train. Baggage!? i have been on the phone every 2-3 hours for 2 days and have been getting the run around. They have no information, no wonder airlines have problems they suck. What is worst is that they know we have to fly so they don't care, they have our money so your luggage means nothing to them, now they are charging you for checked bags and they still don't have the decency to help locate it!!!! i will never fly US Scare again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I flew from Vancouver to Boston, transferring at Philadelphia on Aug 27, 2008 with US Airways. Lost one of my checked baggage. I'm mailing the Passenger Property Form, but I doubt I can get any compensation. Never fly with US Airways again.
US Airways is a fraudulent corporation. I will never ever fly with them again. They forced me to check a carry-on bag, with itmes worth over $20,000. The flight attendants were abusive and rude. I am going to sue them in small claims court, possibly take them on in a bigger way. In california, the small claims limit is $7,500. If I had my bag, I'd be at peace.

It's been two days since I returned from Cancun to CT. I had a connecting flight in Charlotte, NC where I picked up my bag from customs and re-checked it for the flight to CT. The person I was traveling with got their bag, but I wasn't so lucky. They said it's probably going to be on the next flight from Charlotte. Nope, still no bag. How the hell do you lose a bag on a DIRECT flight from NC to CT?!?!?!
