The death toll from the Indonesian tsunami is now 14,000 and still counting. (Learn what you can do to help.)
Meanwhile, halfway around the world, democracy has won out in Ukraine as the people of that country finally got to have a fair election -- an election which has elevated Western-leaning Viktor Yushchenko to power after many trials, including an attempt to poison him.

Tragedy in South Asia, hope in Eastern Europe. The universe works in mysterious ways...
