Why I Can’t Take Digg Seriously

Category: Random Observations Bin

Thursday, February 15, 2007

This sums up pretty well why I have trouble taking Digg seriously as a news site:

WTF?

Only two of the Top 10 stories for today are anything I would actually call "news" (the one about the teacher getting fired because of pop-ups, and the one about Wikipedia) -- and even those are pretty juvenile.

Digg is what a newspaper would look like if it was edited entirely by 15-year-olds.

Your post, coupled with the overwhelming amount of noise and repeats on digg forced me to remove it from my feed reader. I wasn't getting anything productive out of it, so its back to mainly slashdot for my geek news. What do you thin of tech crunch?

TechCrunch is OK, but I personally find Arrington's Web 2.0 boosterism a little tiring. I think I stopped reading after the 900th time they wrote about an AJAX calendar that was going to "change the world".

The best source for tech reading I've found lately is actually the programming Reddit:

http://programming.reddit.com/

It's not perfect, but the signal-to-noise ratio is surprisingly high.

If you think anything I write here represents the opinions of anybody but myself, you need more help than I can give you. The opinions are all mine, folks. Nobody else's.

If that's too hard to understand... well, I'm sorry. There's only so much I can do. I'm not a therapist, and I'm not a miracle worker. I wish I could help you work through your delusional belief that I'm speaking for anyone else but myself. Honestly, I do. But in the end, that's a monkey you'll have to get off your back on your own. Sorry.
